Hadith of Abu Rimthah from the Prophet - Hadithi i Ebu Rimthas nga Pejgamberi - حَدِيثُ أَبِي رِمْثَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيَّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ

Waki' narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Iyad ibn Laqit al-Sadusi, from Abu Rimtha, who said: I went out with my father until we came to the Prophet (pbuh), and I saw traces of henna on his head.

Amr ibn al-Haytham Abu Qatan and Abu al-Nadr narrated to us, they both said: al-Mas'udi narrated to us, from Iyad ibn Laqit, from Abu Rimthah, from the Prophet (pbuh) who said: "The hand of the giver is the upper hand; [give to] your mother, your father, your sister, and your brother, then your nearest relatives in order of closeness." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, these are Banu Yarbu', the killers of so-and-so." He said: "Behold! No soul shall commit a crime against another."

Yunus narrated to us, Hammad—meaning Ibn Salamah—narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Malik ibn ‘Umayr, Iyad ibn Laqit narrated to us, from Abu Rimthah, who said: I came to the Prophet (pbuh) while there were people from Rabi‘ah with him disputing over a matter of blood. He said, “The upper hand (in benevolence) belongs to your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, and then those closest to you, then those next closest.” He said: Then he looked and said, “Who is this with you, O Abu Rimthah?” I said, “My son.” He said, “Indeed, he is not responsible for your crime, nor are you responsible for his crime.” And he mentioned the story of the seal.

Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Iyad ibn Laqit al-Sadusi, who said: I heard Abu Rimtha al-Taymi say: I came with my father to the Prophet (pbuh), and he said, "Is this your son?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Do you love him?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Indeed, he is not responsible for your crime, nor are you responsible for his crime."

Yunus narrated to us, Hammad—meaning Ibn Salamah—narrated to us, from 'Asim, from Abu Rimthah, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) while there were people from Rabi'ah with him disputing over a case of intentional homicide. I heard him saying: "Your mother, your father, your sister, and your brother, then those closest to you, then those closest." Then he looked and said: "Who is this with you, O Abu Rimthah?" I said: "My son." He said: "Indeed, he is not responsible for your offense, nor are you responsible for his offense." He said: I looked and saw on the cartilage of his shoulder something like a camel's dropping or a pigeon's egg. I said: "Shall I not treat it for you, O Messenger of Allah? For we are a household of physicians." He said: "The One who placed it there shall heal it."

Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik and Affan narrated to us, they both said: Ubayd Allah ibn Iyad narrated to us, Iyad narrated to us, from Abu Rimthah, who said: I set out with my father toward the Messenger of Allah (pbuh). When I saw him, my father said to me: "Do you know who this is?" I said: "No." My father said to me: "This is the Messenger of Allah (pbuh)." I shuddered when he said that, as I had imagined the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) to be something that did not resemble ordinary humans, but there he was, a human being with hair reaching his earlobes—Affan said in his narration: possessing hair reaching his earlobes which had a trace of henna on it—and he was wearing two green garments. My father greeted him, then we sat and spoke for a while. Then the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said to my father: "Is this your son?" He replied: "Yes, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!" He said: "Truly?" He replied: "I bear witness to it." The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) smiled, laughing at the established resemblance I bore to my father and at my father’s oath regarding me. Then he said: "Verily, he shall not be held accountable for your crime, nor shall you be held accountable for his crime." He said: And the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) recited: {And no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another}. He said: Then [my father] looked at something like a protuberance between his shoulders and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am the most skilled of physicians; shall I not treat it for you?" He replied: "No, its Physician is the One Who created it."

Abdullah narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Husayn ibn Ali narrated to us, from Ibn Abjar, from Iyad ibn Laqit, from Abu Rimthah, who said: I went with my father, while I was a young boy, to the Prophet (pbuh). He said: My father said to him, "I am a man of medicine, so show me this growth which is on your back." He asked, "What will you do with it?" He replied, "I will excise it." He said, "You are not its physician, but rather you are a kind companion; its physician is the One Who placed it." And others narrated: "the One Who created it."

Abdullah narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Abi al-Rabi' al-Samman narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Umayr, from Iyad ibn Laqit al-'Ijli, from Abu Rimthah al-Taymi, of Taym al-Ribab, who said: I came to the Prophet (pbuh) accompanied by my son, and when I showed him to him, I said to my son, "This is the Messenger of Allah (pbuh)." He was then seized by trembling out of awe for the Messenger of Allah (pbuh). I said to him, "O Prophet of Allah, I am a man who is a physician, from a family of physicians, so show me your back. If it is a growth, I shall lance it, and if it be otherwise, I shall inform you; for there is no person more knowledgeable about a wound or an abscess than I." He said, "Its physician is Allah." He was wearing two green garments, and he had hair that had been touched by grayness, and his gray hair appeared red. He then asked, "Is this your son?" I said, "Yes, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!" He said, "Your own biological son?" I said, "I testify to it." He said, "Indeed, he is not responsible for your crimes, nor are you responsible for his."

Abdullah narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to me, Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us, from Ali ibn Salih, Iyad ibn Laqit narrated to me, from Abu Rimthah, who said: I performed Hajj and saw a man sitting in the shade of the Kaaba. My father said: "Do you know who this is? This is the Messenger of Allah (pbuh)." When we reached him, he was a man with hair reaching his earlobes, with traces of scent upon him, and he was wearing two green garments.

Abdullah narrated to us, saying Amr ibn Muhammad ibn Bukayr al-Naqid narrated to me, saying Hushaym narrated to us more than once, he said: Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr informed me, from Iyad ibn Laqit, from Abu Rimthah al-Taymi, who said: I came to the Prophet (pbuh) accompanied by a son of mine, and he asked, "Is this your son?" I replied, "I testify to it." He said, "He is not responsible for your crimes, nor are you responsible for his." He said, "And I saw that his gray hair was red."

Abdullah narrated to us, Shaiban ibn Abi Shaibah narrated to me, Yazid—meaning ibn Ibrahim al-Tustari—narrated to us, Sadaqah ibn Abi Imran narrated to us, on the authority of a man—who is Thabit ibn Munqidh—on the authority of Abu Rimthah, who said: I set out with my father to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), and when we were at a certain point on the road, we met him. My father said to me, "O my son, this is the Messenger of Allah (pbuh)." He said: I used to imagine that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) did not resemble other people, but there was a man with a full head of hair reaching his earlobes with traces of henna in it, wearing two green garments. He said: It is as if I am looking at his shanks. He said: He [the Prophet] said to my father, "Who is this with you?" He replied, "By Allah, this is my son." He said: Then the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) laughed at my father's oath concerning me, and then he said, "You have spoken the truth. Indeed, you do not bear responsibility for his offenses, nor does he bear responsibility for your offenses." He said: And the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) recited, {And no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another}.

Abdullah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Bakkar narrated to us, Qays ibn al-Rabi' al-Asadi narrated to us, from Iyad ibn Laqit, from Abu Rimthah, who said: I set out with my father when I was a young boy, and we came to a man during the midday heat who was sitting in the shade of his house. He was wearing two green garments, his hair was thick (reaching the earlobes), and there were traces of henna on his head. He said: My father said to me, "Do you know who this is?" I replied, "No." He said, "This is the Messenger of Allah (pbuh)." He said: We conversed for a long time. Then my father said to him, "I am a man from a household of physicians, so show me that which is on the inner part of your shoulder; if it is a growth, I shall excise it, and if it is something else, I shall inform you." He (the Prophet) said, "Its physician is the One Who created it." He said: Then the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) looked at me and said to him, "Is this your son?" He (my father) said, "I bear witness to it." The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said to him, "Consider what you are saying." He replied, "Yes, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!" He (the narrator) said: Then the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) laughed because of my resemblance to my father and because of my father's oath concerning me. Then the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, "O man, he shall not be held responsible for your offense, nor shall you be held responsible for his."

Abdullah narrated to us, Ja'far ibn Humayd al-Kufi narrated to me, Ubaydullah ibn Iyad ibn Laqit narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Rimthah, who said: I set out with my father toward the Messenger of Allah (pbuh). When I saw him, my father said: "Do you know who this is?" I said: "No." He said: "This is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh)." He said: I shuddered when he said that, for I had used to think that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) was something that did not resemble human beings. But behold, he was a human being with hair reaching his earlobes which had traces of henna upon it, and he was wearing two green garments. My father greeted him with peace, then we sat and spoke for a while. Then the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said to my father: "Is this your son?" He replied: "Yes, by the Lord of the Ka'bah." He asked: "Truly?" He replied: "I bear witness to it." The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) smiled, laughing at the confirmation of my resemblance to my father and at my father's oath concerning me. Then he said: "Indeed, he shall not be held responsible for your offense, nor shall you be held responsible for his offense." And the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) recited: {And no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another}. Then he [my father] looked at something like a small growth between his [the Prophet's] shoulders and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am one of the most skilled of men in medicine; shall I not treat it for you?" He (pbuh) replied: "No, its physician is the One Who created it."

Abdullah narrated to us, my father and Abu Khaythama Zuhayr ibn Harb narrated to me, they both said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Ubaydullah ibn Iyad ibn Laqit narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Rimtha, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) and he was wearing two green garments.

Abdullah narrated to us, Shaiban bin Abi Shaibah narrated to me, Jarir—meaning ibn Hazim—narrated to us, Abd al-Malik bin Umayr narrated to us, from Iyad bin Laqit, from Abu Rimthah, who said: I arrived in Medina and had not yet seen the Messenger of Allah (pbuh). He came out wearing two green garments, so I said to my son, "By Allah, this is the Messenger of Allah (pbuh)." My son began to tremble out of awe for the Messenger of Allah (pbuh). I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a physician, and my father was a physician, and we are a family of medicine. By Allah, no vein or bone in the body is hidden from us. Show me this that is on your shoulder; if it is a cyst, I shall excise it and then treat it." He replied, "No, its physician is Allah." Then he asked, "Who is this with you?" I said, "My son, by the Lord of the Ka'bah." He asked, "Your son?" I said, "My son, I testify to it." He said, "This son of yours shall not be held responsible for your misdeeds, nor shall you be held responsible for his."
