- وَعَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ: مَا كَانَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَحَدٌ سَمِعْنَا
بِهِ كَانَ أَكْثَرَ حَمْلًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ مِنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ
حِزَامٍ.
قَالَ: لَقَدْ قَدِمَ أَعْرَابِيَّانِ الْمَدِينَةَ
يَسْأَلَانِ مَنْ يَحْمِلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، فَدُلَّا عَلَى حَكِيمِ
بْنِ حِزَامٍ، فَأَتَيَاهُ فِي أَهْلِهِ، فَسَأَلَهُمَا مَا يُرِيدَانِ
فَأَخْبَرَاهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُمَا: لَا تَعْجَلَا حَتَّى أَخْرُجَ
إِلَيْكُمَا، وَكَانَ حَكِيمٌ يَلْبَسُ ثِيَابًا يُؤْتَى بِهَا مِنْ مِصْرَ
كَأَنَّهَا الشِّبَاكُ، ثَمَنُهَا أَرْبَعَةُ دَرَاهِمَ، وَيَأْخُذُ عَصًا
فِي يَدِهِ وَيَخْرُجُ وَمَعَهُ غُلَامَانِ لَهُ، وَكُلَّمَا مَرَّ
بِكُنَاسَةٍ
- أَوْ قُمَامَةٍ - فَرَأَى فِيهَا خِرْقَةً تَصْلُحُ فِي
جِهَازِ الْإِبِلِ الَّتِي يَحْمِلُ عَلَيْهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ
أَخَذَهَا بِطَرَفِ عَصَاهُ فَنَفَضَهَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِغُلَامَيْهِ:
أَمْسِكَا فَاسْتَعِينَا فِي جِهَازِكُمَا، فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيَّانِ
أَحَدُهُمَا لِصَاحِبِهِ وَهُوَ يَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ: وَيْحَكَ! انْجُ بِنَا؛
فَوَاللَّهِ مَا عِنْدَ هَذَا إِلَّا لُقَطُ الْقَشْعِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ
صَاحِبُهُ: وَيْحَكَ! لَا تَعْجَلْ حَتَّى نَنْظُرَ، فَخَرَجَ بِهِمَا
إِلَى السُّوقِ فَنَظَرَ إِلَى نَاقَتَيْنِ جَلِيلَتَيْنِ سَمِينَتَيْنِ
خَلِفَتَيْنِ، فَابْتَاعَهُمَا وَابْتَاعَ جِهَازَهُمَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ
لِغُلَامَيْهِ: رُمَّا بِهَذِهِ الْخِرَقِ مَا يَنْبَغِي لَهُ الْمَرَمَّةُ
مِنْ جِهَازِكُمَا، ثُمَّ أَوْقَرَهُمَا طَعَامًا وَبُرًّا وَوَدَكًا،
ثُمَّ أَعْطَاهُمَا نَفَقَةً، ثُمَّ أَعْطَاهُمَا النَّاقَتَيْنِ.
قَالَ: يَقُولُ أَحَدُهُمَا لِصَاحِبِهِ: وَاللَّهِ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ لَاقِطِ قَشْعٍ خَيْرًا مِنَ الْيَوْمِ.

١٦٠٤٦ - And from Abu Hazim, who said: There was no one in Medina whom we heard of who provided more mounts in the cause of Allah than Hakim ibn Hizam. He said: Two Bedouins arrived in Medina asking who provides mounts in the cause of Allah, and they were directed to Hakim ibn Hizam. They came to him while he was among his family, and he asked them what they wanted and they informed him. He said to them: "Do not be in a hurry until I come out to you." Hakim used to wear clothes brought from Egypt that were as thin as nets, costing four dirhams. He would take a staff in his hand and go out, accompanied by two of his servants, and whenever he passed by a heap of rubbish—or trash—and saw a rag suitable for the equipment of the camels that he provided in the cause of Allah, he would pick it up with the end of his staff and shake it off. Then he said to his two servants: "Hold these and use them for your equipment." One of the two Bedouins said to his companion while he was doing that: "Woe to you! Let us get away; by Allah, this man has nothing but the pickings of scraps." His companion said to him: "Woe to you! Do not be in a hurry until we see." Then he went out with them to the market and looked for two great, fat, and pregnant she-camels; he bought them and bought their equipment. Then he said to his two servants: "Repair with these rags whatever needs repairing of your equipment." Then he loaded them heavily with food, wheat, and fat, then he gave them spending money, and then he gave them the two camels. He said: One of them said to his companion: "By Allah, I have never seen anything better from a picker of scraps than today!" Narrated by At-Tabarani.

- Dhe nga Ebu Hazimi transmetohet të ketë thënë: Nuk kishte në Medine askënd për të cilin kemi dëgjuar se ka bartur më shumë (pajisje dhe njerëz) në rrugën e Allahut sesa Hakim bin Hizami.
Ai tha: Dy beduinë erdhën në Medine duke pyetur se kush mund t'i bartte në rrugën e Allahut, dhe i udhëzuan te Hakim bin Hizami. Ata shkuan te ai në shtëpinë e tij, dhe ai i pyeti se çfarë dëshironin, e ata e njoftuan. Ai u tha atyre: Mos u nxitoni derisa të dal te ju. Hakimi vishte rroba që silleshin nga Egjipti, të cilat ishin aq të holla sa dukeshin si rrjetë, çmimi i të cilave ishte katër dërhemë. Ai merrte një shkop në dorë dhe dilte bashkë me dy djemtë (shërbëtorët) e tij, dhe sa herë që kalonte pranë një grumbulli mbeturinash
- ose plehrave - dhe shihte aty ndonjë copë pëlhure që mund të shërbente për pajisjen e deveve me të cilat bartte njerëzit në rrugën e Allahut, e merrte me majën e shkopit të tij, e shkundte, dhe pastaj u thoshte dy djemve të tij: Mbajeni këtë dhe ndihmohuni me të për pajisjet tuaja. Njëri nga beduinët i tha shokut të tij ndërsa ai po e bënte këtë: Mjerë ti! Eja të ikim; pasha Allahun, ky njeri nuk ka asgjë tjetër përveç asaj që mbledh nga mbeturinat. Shoku i tij i tha: Mjerë ti! Mos u nxito derisa të shohim. Pastaj ai doli me ta në treg dhe pa dy deve të mëdha, të majme dhe shtatzëna, i bleu ato dhe bleu pajisjet e tyre. Pastaj u tha dy djemve të tij: Riparoni me këto lecka atë që duhet riparuar nga pajisjet tuaja. Pastaj i ngarkoi ato me ushqim, grurë dhe yndyrë, u dha atyre edhe para për shpenzime, dhe në fund ua dha të dyja devetë.
Ai tha: Njëri prej tyre i thoshte shokut të tij: Pasha Allahun, nuk kam parë kurrë ndonjë mbledhës mbeturinash më të mirë se ky i sotmi.
