٦٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَجْفَاءِ السُّلَمِيِّ ، قَالَ: خَطَبَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ﵁ فَقَالَ: «أَلَا لَا تُغْلُوا صُدُقَ النِّسَاءِ فَإِنَّهَا لَوْ كَانَتْ مَكْرُمَةً فِي الدُّنْيَا وَتَقْوَى عِنْدَ اللهِ كَانَ أَوْلَاكُمْ بِهَا مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ، مَا زَوَّجَ أَحَدًا مِنْ بَنَاتِهِ وَلَا تَزَوَّجَ أَحَدًا مِنْ نِسَائِهِ بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ أُوقِيَّةً، إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لَيُغْلِي صَدُقَةَ الْمَرْأَةِ حَتَّى يَكُونَ فِدَاؤُهُ لَهَا، فَيَقُولُ: قَدْ كَلِفْتُ لَكِ عَلَقَ الْقِرْبَةِ، أَوْ قَالَ: عَرَقَ الْقِرْبَةِ».
#64 64 - Abu Dawud narrated to us, he said: Sa'id ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, from Abu al-'Ajfa' al-Sulami, who said: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (ra) delivered a sermon and said: "Lo! Do not exceed the limits in the dowries of women, for if it were a mark of honor in this world or a matter of piety before Allah, Muhammad (saw) would have been the foremost of you in it. He did not marry any of his daughters nor did he marry any of his wives for more than twelve uqiyahs. Indeed, one of you increases the dowry of a woman until it becomes a ransom for her, and he says: 'I have been burdened for you with the strap of the water-skin,' or he said: 'the sweat of the water-skin.'"

64 - Na ka treguar Ebu Davudi, i cili ka thënë: Na ka treguar Seid bin Abdurrahmani, nga Muhamed bin Sirini, nga Ebu el-Axha es-Sulemi, i cili ka thënë:

Omer bin el-Hatabi (r.a.) mbajti një hytbe dhe tha: «Vini re! Mos i shtrenjtoni mehret e grave, sepse sikur kjo të ishte një nder në këtë botë dhe devotshmëri te Allahu, më i pari prej jush për këtë do të ishte Muhamedi (s.a.v.s.). Ai nuk martoi asnjë nga vajzat e tij dhe as nuk u martua me asnjë nga gratë e tij për më shumë se dymbëdhjetë ukije. Vërtet, ndonjëri prej jush e rrit aq shumë mehrin e gruas, saqë ajo bëhet barrë për të, e pastaj thotë: "Jam munduar shumë për ty (derisa jam djersitur si kacekët e lëkurës)", ose ka thënë: "derisa jam lodhur si kacekët e lëkurës"».
