#2815 2815 - Abu Dawud narrated to us, he said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Ali ibn Zayd, from Yusuf ibn Mihran, from Ibn Abbas, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (saw) said regarding the statement of Allah the Mighty and Majestic: {O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down} until the end of the verse: Indeed, the first one to deny was Adam. Verily, Allah showed him his progeny, and he saw a man who was radiant, his light shining. He said: 'O Lord, who is this?' He said: 'This is your son David.' He said: 'O Lord, what is his lifespan?' He said: 'Sixty years.' He said: 'O Lord, increase his lifespan.' He said: 'No, unless you increase it from your own lifespan.' He said: 'And what is my lifespan?' He said: 'A thousand years.' Adam said: 'Then I have gifted him forty years.' He said: So Allah the Mighty and Majestic wrote a document for him and had His angels bear witness to it. When death approached him and the angels came to him, he said: 'There remain forty years of my lifespan.' They said: 'You have gifted them to your son David.' He said: 'I did not gift anything to anyone.' He said: So Allah the Mighty and Majestic brought out the document, and His angels bore witness against him."
