#257 Musa ibn Khalid narrated to us, from Al-Hiql ibn Ziyad, from Al-Awza'i, who said: I asked Az-Zuhri about a man who divorced his wife while she was a young woman who menstruates, but her menstruation ceased when he divorced her and she saw no blood; how long should her waiting period ('Iddah) be? He said: "Three months." He said: And I asked Az-Zuhri about a man who divorced his wife and she menstruated twice, then her menstruation ceased; how long does she wait? He said: "Her waiting period is one year." He said: And I asked Az-Zuhri about a man who divorced his wife while she menstruates, and she remains for three months then menstruates once, then her menstruation is delayed and she remains for seven or eight months then menstruates again, sometimes coming early and other times being delayed; how should she observe her waiting period? He said: "If her menstruation differs from her regular cycles, then her waiting period is one year." I said: And what if he divorced her while she menstruates once every year, how long is her waiting period? He said: "If her cycles are known, then those are her cycles, and we are of the opinion that she should observe her waiting period according to her cycles."
