أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ زَاذَانَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَجْفَاءِ السُّلَمِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ خَطَبَ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ، ثُمّ قَالَ :" أَلَا لَا تُغَالُوا فِي صُدُقِ النِّسَاءِ، فَإِنَّهَا لَوْ كَانَتْ مَكْرُمَةً فِي الدُّنْيَا، أَوْ تَقْوَى عِنْدَ اللَّهِ، كَانَ أَوْلَاكُمْ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا أَصْدَقَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ نِسَائِهِ، وَلَا أُصْدِقَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَنَاتِهِ فَوْقَ اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ أُوقِيَّةً، أَلَا وَإِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لَيُغَالِي بِصَدَاقِ امْرَأَتِهِ حَتَّى يَبْقَى لَهَا فِي نَفْسِهِ عَدَاوَةٌ حَتَّى يَقُولَ : كَلِفْتُ علَيْكِ عَلَقَ الْقِرْبَةِ أَوْ عَرَقَ الْقِرْبَةِ "
#1483 Amr bin Awn informed us, Hushaym informed us, from Mansur bin Zadhan, from Ibn Sirin, from Abu al-Ajfa' al-Sulami, who said: I heard Umar bin al-Khattab delivering a sermon; he praised Allah and extolled Him, then he said: "Behold, do not go to extremes regarding the dowries of women, for if it were a mark of honor in this world or an act of piety before Allah, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) would have been the most deserving of it among you. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) did not give a dowry to any of his wives, nor was any of his daughters given a dowry, exceeding twelve uqiyahs. Behold, a man may increase the dowry of his wife until enmity for her remains in his soul, until he says: 'I have been burdened for your sake with the strap of the water-skin' or 'the sweat of the water-skin'."

Transmeton Omer ibn el-Hatabi: Ai mbajti një ligjëratë, ku pasi e falënderoi dhe e lavdëroi Allahun, tha: "Vërtet, mos e teproni me mehret e grave, sepse po të ishte kjo një nder në këtë botë apo devotshmëri tek Allahu, i Dërguari i Allahut (s.a.v.s.) do të ishte i pari prej jush në këtë veprim. I Dërguari i Allahut (s.a.v.s.) nuk i ka dhënë asnjë prej grave të tij dhe asnjë prej vajzave të tij nuk i është dhënë mehr më shumë se dymbëdhjetë uki. Vini re, dikush prej jush e rrit aq shumë mehrin e gruas së tij, saqë kjo i shkakton armiqësi në shpirtin e tij ndaj saj, derisa arrin të thotë: 'Për ty u ngarkova me çdo vështirësi dhe mundim'."
