أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَامِرُ بْنُ وَاثِلَةَ : أَنَّ نَافِعَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْحَارِثِ لَقِيَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ بِعُسْفَانَ ، وَكَانَ عُمَرُ اسْتَعْمَلَهُ عَلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ ، فَسَلَّمَ عَلَى عُمَرَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ : مَنْ اسْتَخْلَفْتَ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْوَادِي؟ فَقَالَ نَافِعٌ : اسْتَخْلَفْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ ابْنَ أَبْزَى، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : وَمَنْ ابْنُ أَبْزَى؟ فَقَالَ : مَوْلًى مِنْ مَوَالِينَا، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : فَاسْتَخْلَفْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَوْلًى؟ فَقَالَ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، إِنَّهُ قَارِئٌ لِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ، عَالِمٌ بِالْفَرَائِضِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : أَمَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ :" إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَرْفَعُ بِهَذَا الْكِتَابِ أَقْوَامًا، وَيَضَعُ بِهِ آخَرِينَ "
#2621 Al-Hakam ibn Nafi' informed us, from Shu'ayb ibn Abi Hamzah, from al-Zuhri, who said: 'Amir ibn Wathilah narrated to me: that Nafi' ibn 'Abd al-Harith met 'Umar ibn al-Khattab at 'Usfan, and 'Umar had appointed him over the people of Mecca. He greeted 'Umar, and 'Umar said to him: "Whom have you appointed as your successor over the people of the valley?" Nafi' replied: "I have appointed Ibn Abza over them." 'Umar asked: "And who is Ibn Abza?" He said: "A freed slave from among our freed slaves." 'Umar said: "So you have appointed a freed slave as successor over them?" Nafi' responded: "O Commander of the Faithful, he is a reciter of the Book of Allah and is knowledgeable in the laws of inheritance." 'Umar then said: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: 'Verily, Allah raises some people by this Book and lowers others by it.'"

Nafi' ibn Abd el-Harithi u takua me Omer ibn el-Hatabin në Usfan, ndërkohë që Omeri e kishte caktuar atë përgjegjës mbi banorët e Mekës. Omeri e pyeti: "Kë ke lënë zëvendës mbi banorët e luginës?" Nafiu u përgjigj: "Kam lënë Ibn Abzën." Omeri tha: "E kush është Ibn Abza?" Ai u përgjigj: "Një i liruar nga tanët." Omeri tha: "Ke lënë zëvendës mbi ta një të liruar?" Ai u përgjigj: "O Prijës i Besimtarëve, ai është lexues i Librit të Allahut dhe i ditur në shkencën e trashëgimisë." Atëherë Omeri tha: "Vërtet, i Dërguari i Allahut (s.a.v.s.) ka thënë: 'Allahu i lartëson me këtë Libër disa popuj dhe i ul disa të tjerë'."
