#2834 Zakariya ibn 'Adi informed us, Hatim ibn Isma'il narrated to us, from Unays ibn Abi Yahya, from his father, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) came out to us during the illness in which he died while we were in the mosque, with his head bound with a cloth, until he approached the pulpit and ascended it, and we followed him. He said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I am indeed looking at the Cistern from this standing place of mine." Then he said: "Indeed, a servant was offered the world and its adornments, but he chose the Hereafter." He said: No one understood [the implication] except Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him); his eyes overflowed with tears and he wept, then said: "Rather, we would ransom you with our fathers, our mothers, our lives, and our wealth, O Messenger of Allah." He said: Then he descended, and he did not stand upon it again until this hour.
