#2835 Khalifa bin Khayyat informed us, Bakr bin Sulayman narrated to us, Ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Abdullah bin Umar bin Ali bin Adi narrated to me, from Ubayd, the freed slave of al-Hakam bin Abi al-As, from Abdullah bin Amr, from Abu Muwayhibah (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), who said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said to me: "I have been commanded to seek forgiveness for the people of al-Baqi', so come with me." So I went with him in the middle of the night, and when he stood over them, he said: "Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of the graves. May the state in which you find yourselves be more pleasant for you than the state in which the people [living] find themselves. Trials have approached like portions of a dark night, the last of them following the first of them; the latter ones being worse than the former ones." Then he turned to me and said: "O Abu Muwayhibah, I have been given the keys to the treasures of this world and eternal life therein, followed by Paradise, and I was given the choice between that and meeting my Lord." I said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, take the keys to the treasures of the world and eternal life therein, followed by Paradise!" He said: "No, by Allah, O Abu Muwayhibah, I have chosen to meet my Lord." Then he sought forgiveness for the people of al-Baqi' and departed. Then the illness of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) from which he passed away began.
