#2901 Abu al-Nu'man informed us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, Yazid ibn Hazim narrated to us, on the authority of Sulayman ibn Yasar, that a man called Sabigh arrived in Medina and began asking about the ambiguous verses of the Qur'an. So Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, sent for him, having prepared palm branches for him. He said, "Who are you?" He replied, "I am the servant of Allah, Sabigh." Umar then took a palm branch from those branches and struck him, saying, "And I am the servant of Allah, Umar." He continued to strike him until his head bled, and he said, "O Leader of the Believers, enough; that which I used to find in my head has indeed departed."
