Hadith #3052 - Sunan ad-Darimi

أَخْبَرَنَا عِصْمَةُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ حُبَابٍ ، عَنْ مُبَارَكِ بْنِ فَضَالَةَ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ الْعُمَرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، قَالَ :" لَا تَكُونُ عَالِمًا حَتَّى يَكُونَ فِيكَ ثَلَاثُ خِصَالٍ : لَا تَبْغِي عَلَى مَنْ فَوْقَكَ، وَلَا تَحْقِرُ مَنْ دُونَكَ، وَلَا تَأْخُذُ عَلَى عِلْمِكَ دُنْيَا "

#3052 Ismah ibn al-Fadl informed us, Zayd ibn Hubab narrated to us, from Mubarak ibn Fadalah, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Umar al-'Umari, from Abu Hazim, who said: "You will not be a scholar until there are three characteristics within you: you do not transgress against those above you, you do not despise those below you, and you do not take worldly gain in exchange for your knowledge."
