#3059 Abu al-Nu'man informed us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Hazim, my uncle Jarir ibn Zayd narrated to me, that he heard Tubay' narrating from Ka'b, who said: "I find the description of a people who learn for purposes other than action, and seek religious understanding for purposes other than worship, and seek the world through the deeds of the Hereafter; they wear sheepskins while their hearts are more bitter than aloes. Is it by Me that they are deceived, or is it Me they attempt to trick? I have sworn by Myself that I shall surely subject them to a trial that leaves the clement person therein bewildered."
