Muhammad bin Kathir informed us, on the authority of al-Awza'i, on the authority of Bahir bin Sa'd, on the authority of Khalid bin Ma'dan, who said: "People are [either] a scholar or a learner, and whatever is besides that is riffraff in which there is no good."
