#3101 Abu al-Mughirah informed us, al-Awza'i narrated to us, Harun ibn Ri'ab narrated to me, on the authority of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, that he used to say: "Go forth in the morning as a scholar or a student, and do not go forth as anything in between, for indeed, what lies between those two is an ignoramus. Verily, the angels spread their wings for the man who goes forth seeking knowledge, out of pleasure with what he is doing."
