Hadith #3137 - Sunan ad-Darimi

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، قَالَ : بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ لُقْمَانَ الْحَكِيمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ لِابْنِهِ : " يَا بُنَيَّ،لَا تَعَلَّمْ الْعِلْمَ لِتُبَاهِيَ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ، أَوْ لِتُمَارِيَ بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ، أَوْ تُرَائِيَ بِهِ فِي الْمَجَالِسِ، وَلَا تَتْرُكْ الْعِلْمَ زُهْدًا فِيهِ وَرَغْبَةً فِي الْجَهَالَةِ، يَا بُنَيَّ، اخْتَرْ الْمَجَالِسَ عَلَى عَيْنِكَ، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ قَوْمًا يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ، فَاجْلِسْ مَعَهُمْ، فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ تَكُنْ عَالِمًا يَنْفَعْكَ عِلْمُكَ، وَإِنْ تَكُنْ جَاهِلًا يُعَلِّمُوكَ، وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِرَحْمَتِهِ فَيُصِيبَكَ بِهَا مَعَهُمْ، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ قَوْمًا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ، فَلَا تَجْلِسْ مَعَهُمْ، فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ تَكُنْ عَالِمًا لَا يَنْفَعْكَ عِلْمُكَ، وَإِنْ تَكُنْ جَاهِلًا زَادُوكَ عَيًّا، وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِعَذَابٍ فَيُصِيبَكَ مَعَهُمْ "

#3137 Al-Hakam ibn Nafi' informed us, Shu'ayb ibn Abi Hamza informed us, on the authority of Ibn Abi Husayn, on the authority of Shahr ibn Hawshab, who said: It reached me that Luqman the Wise used to say to his son: "O my dear son, do not acquire knowledge to boastfully compete with the scholars, or to argue with the foolish, or for the sake of ostentation in gatherings. And do not abandon knowledge out of an aversion to it and a preference for ignorance. O my son, select your gatherings with care; if you see a people who remember Allah, sit with them. For if you are knowledgeable, your knowledge will benefit you, and if you are ignorant, they will teach you. Moreover, Allah may look upon them with His mercy, and it may reach you alongside them. But if you see a people who do not remember Allah, do not sit with them. For if you are knowledgeable, your knowledge will not benefit you, and if you are ignorant, they will only increase your confusion. Moreover, Allah may look upon them with a punishment, and it may reach you alongside them."

Transmetohet nga Shehr bin Haushebi se Lukman el-Hakimi (i Urtë) i ka thënë birit të tij: "O biri im, mos kërko dije që të mburresh me të para dijetarëve, as që të debatosh me të pamendët, e as për t'u dukur nëpër tubime. Po ashtu, mos e braktis dijen nga mosinteresimi për të apo nga dëshira për injorancë. O biri im, zgjidhi tubimet me kujdes. Nëse sheh një popull që e përmend Allahun, ulu me ta, sepse nëse je i ditur, dija jote do të të bëjë dobi, e nëse je i paditur, ata do të të mësojnë. Madje, mundet që Allahu t'i vështrojë ata me mëshirën e Tij e kështu ajo të të përfshijë edhe ty bashkë me ta. Por, nëse sheh një popull që nuk e përmend Allahun, mos u ul me ta, sepse nëse je i ditur, dija jote nuk do të të bëjë dobi, e nëse je i paditur, ata do të ta shtojnë edhe më shumë paditurinë dhe mundimin. Madje, mundet që Allahu t'i vështrojë ata me dënim e kështu ai të të godasë edhe ty bashkë me ta."
