أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَرِيزٌ ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ سُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، قَالَ :" لَا تُحَدِّثْ الْبَاطِلَ الْحُكَمَاءَ فَيَمْقُتُوكَ، وَلَا تُحَدِّثْ الْحِكْمَةَ لِلسُّفَهَاءِ فَيُكَذِّبُوكَ، وَلَا تَمْنَعْ الْعِلْمَ أَهْلَهُ فَتَأْثَمَ، وَلَا تَضَعْهُ فِي غَيْرِ أَهْلِهِ فَتُجَهَّلَ، إِنَّ عَلَيْكَ فِي عِلْمِكَ حَقًّا كَمَا أَنَّ عَلَيْكَ فِي مَالِكَ حَقًّا "
#3138 Yusuf ibn Musa informed us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Hariz narrated to us, from Salman ibn Sumayr, from Kathir ibn Murrah, who said: "Do not speak falsehood to the wise, or they will loathe you; do not speak wisdom to the foolish, or they will deny you; do not withhold knowledge from those who deserve it, or you will sin; and do not bestow it upon those who do not deserve it, or you will be deemed ignorant. Indeed, there is a right due from you regarding your knowledge, just as there is a right due from you regarding your wealth."
