#3235 Al-Walid bin Hisham informed us, al-Harith bin Yazid al-Himsi narrated to us, on the authority of ‘Amr bin Qays, who said: I traveled as part of a delegation with my father to Yazid bin Mu’awiya in Huwwarin when Mu’awiya, may Allah be pleased with him, passed away, to offer him condolences and to congratulate him on the Caliphate. There was a man in the mosque saying: "Indeed, among the signs of the Hour is that the wicked will be elevated and the righteous will be lowered. Indeed, among the signs of the Hour is that speech will become manifest while deeds will be withheld. Indeed, among the signs of the Hour is that the Mathnah will be recited and none will be found to change it." It was said to him: "And what is the Mathnah?" He replied: "Whatever is transcribed of books other than the Qur’an. So you must adhere to the Qur’an, for through it you have been guided, by it you will be rewarded, and concerning it you will be questioned." I did not know who the man was, so I narrated this report afterwards in Homs. A man from among the people said to me: "Do you not know him?" I replied: "No." He said: "That was ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr, may Allah be pleased with them both."
