Hadith #558 - Muwatta of Imam Muhammad al-Shaybani

قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْمَكِّيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ: " الطَّلاقُ بِالنِّسَاءِ وَالْعِدَّةُ بِهِنَّ، وَهُوَ قَوْلُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، وَأَبِي حَنِيفَةَ، وَالْعَامَّةِ مِنْ فُقَهَائِنَا

#558 Muhammad said: Ibrahim bin Yazid al-Makki informed us, saying: I heard 'Ata bin Abi Rabah saying: 'Ali bin Abi Talib said: "Divorce is determined by the women, and the waiting period is determined by them." And this is the view of 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Abu Hanifa, and the generality of our jurists.
