1740 - Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Mu'adh ibn Mu'adh narrated to us, Ibn 'Awn narrated to us, from 'Umayr ibn Ishaq, who said: Ja'far ibn Abi Talib said: "O Messenger of Allah, permit me to go to a land where I may worship Allah, fearing no one until I die." He said: So he (pbuh) gave him permission, and he went to the Negus.
Then Mu'adh said: Ibn 'Awn narrated to me, saying: 'Umayr ibn Ishaq narrated to me, saying: 'Amr ibn al-'As narrated to me, saying: "When I saw Ja'far and his companions safe in the land of Abyssinia, I said, 'I shall surely do something about him and his companions.' So I went to the Negus and said, 'Permit 'Amr ibn al-'As to enter.' He gave me permission and I entered. I said, 'In our land, there is a cousin of this man [the Prophet (pbuh)] who claims that people have no god but One God. By Allah, if you do not rid us of him and his companions, I shall never cross this water to you again, nor will any of my companions.' He asked, 'Where is he?' I said, 'He will come with your messenger; he will not come with me.' So he sent a messenger with me, and we found him sitting among his companions. He summoned him, and he came. When I reached the door, I called out, 'Permit 'Amr ibn al-'As to enter.' And from behind me, he called out, 'Permit the party of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime.' He [the Negus] heard his voice and gave him permission. He entered and I entered, and there was the Negus on his throne. I placed him behind my back and seated one of my companions between every two of his companions. He [the Negus] remained silent and we remained silent, and he remained silent and we remained silent, until I said to myself, 'Curse this Abyssinian slave! Why does he not speak?' Then he spoke and said, 'Najjirū.' 'Amr said: Meaning, 'Speak.' I said, 'The cousin of this man claims that there is no god for people except One God. By Allah, if you do not kill him, I shall never cross this water to you again—neither I nor any of my companions.' He said, 'O companions of 'Amr, what do you say?' They replied, 'We hold the same opinion as 'Amr.' He then said, 'O party of Allah, speak (najjir).' Ja'far then recited the testimony of faith (Tashahhud). 'Amr said: By Allah, that was the first day I ever heard the Tashahhud. He [Ja'far] said: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger.' He [the Negus] said: 'And you, what do you say?' He [Ja'far] said: 'I follow his religion.' He [the Negus] raised his hand and placed it on his forehead, as described by Ibn 'Awn, then said: 'A Law (Nāmūs) like the Law of Moses! What does he say about Jesus?' He [Ja'far] said: 'He says he is the Spirit of Allah and His Word.' He [the Negus] picked up something from the ground, no larger than this [a small stick], and said: 'Were it not for my kingdom, I would have followed you. Go, O 'Amr! By Allah, I do not care if you never come to me again, nor any of your companions. And go, O party of Allah, for you are safe. Whoever kills you, I shall kill him, and whoever insults you, I shall fine him.' He then said to his doorkeeper: 'Look after this man; do not bar him from me unless I am with my family. If I am with my family, inform him; but if he insists on being permitted, then permit him.' One evening, I met him [Ja'far] in the street and looked behind him. I saw no one behind him, so I took him by the hand and said: 'Know that I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.' He ['Amr] said: He [Ja'far] winked at me and said, 'You are upon this [faith], yet you try to divide us?' No sooner had I reached my companions than it was as if they had witnessed me and him. They asked me nothing until they seized me and wrestled me down. They placed a velvet cloak over my face and began to stifle me with it. I would stick my head out occasionally until I escaped naked, with nothing on my skin. They left me with nothing, taking everything away, so I took a woman's head-covering."

Ai tha: Kështu ai (s.a.v.s.) i dha leje dhe ai shkoi te Nexhashiu (mbreti i Abisinisë).
Ai tha: 'O grupi i Allahut, fol (naxhir).'
