#2246 Umar ibn al-Khattab al-Sijistani narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Bukayr narrated to us, saying: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, saying: al-Harith ibn Yazid narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Rabah al-Lakhmi, who said: I heard 'Utbah ibn al-Nuddar saying: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) was asked: "Which of the two terms did Moses complete?" He replied: "The more righteous and the more fulfilled of them." Then the Prophet (pbuh) said: "When Moses intended to depart from Shu'ayb (pbuh), he commanded his wife to ask her father to give her from his sheep that which they could live upon. So he gave her whatever his sheep would give birth to that year of a contrasting color. He said: 'Not a single sheep passed except that Moses struck its sides with his staff, and they all gave birth to offspring of contrasting colors, and they gave birth to thirty-two. Every sheep was neither a fashush (one whose milk leaks), nor a dabub (one with a narrow teat), nor a kamsha (one with a teat too small for the hand to grasp) that eludes the palm, nor a tha'ul (one with an extra teat).' And the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: 'When you conquer ash-Sham (the Levant), you will find remnants of them; they are the Samariyyah.'"
