#2431 Chapter: The Wolf Asking for Sustenance
2431 - Muhammad ibn Ma'mar narrated to us, saying: Muslim narrated to us, saying: al-Qasim ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id, who said: While a shepherd was tending to sheep of his, a wolf came and crouched, then snatched a sheep from them. The shepherd came and intervened between the wolf and the sheep. The wolf then sat back on its tail and said: "O shepherd, do you not fear Allah? You intervene between me and a provision that Allah has provided for me." The shepherd said: "How wondrous! A wolf sitting on its tail speaking with the speech of human beings!" The wolf said: "Shall I not tell you of something even more wondrous than that? The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) is at al-Harrah, telling the people news of what has preceded." So the shepherd drove his sheep until he reached Madinah, set them aside in a corner, and then came to the Prophet (pbuh) and informed him. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "You have spoken the truth."
