#2632 2632 - 'Abbad ibn Ya'qub al-Kufi narrated to us, saying: 'Ali ibn Hashim ibn al-Barid narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Raja', from his father, who said: I was sitting in Medina in the Mosque of the Messenger (pbuh), in a circle where Abu Sa'id and 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr were present. Then al-Hasan ibn 'Ali passed by and gave the greeting of peace. The people returned the greeting, but 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr remained silent. He then followed him and said: "And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah." Then he said: "This is the most beloved of the inhabitants of the earth to the inhabitants of the heavens. By Allah, I have not spoken to him since the nights of Siffin." Abu Sa'id said: "Will you not go to him and apologize to him?" He replied: "Yes." He said: So he stood up, and Abu Sa'id entered and asked for permission, which was granted to him. Then he requested permission for 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr, and he entered. Abu Sa'id then said to 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr: "Tell us what you told us when al-Hasan passed by." He said: "Yes, I shall tell you; he is the most beloved of the inhabitants of the earth to the inhabitants of the heavens." He said: Al-Hasan then said to him: "If you know that I am the most beloved of the inhabitants of the earth to the inhabitants of the heavens, then why did you fight us, or increase the numbers against us on the day of Siffin?" He replied: "As for that, by Allah, I did not increase their ranks nor did I strike with a sword alongside them, but I was present with my father"—or a word similar to it. He [al-Hasan] said: "Did you not know that there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to Allah?" He replied: "Indeed, but I used to fast continuously during the time of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), and my father complained about me to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), saying: 'O Messenger of Allah, 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr fasts during the day and prays during the night.' He [the Prophet] said: 'Fast and break your fast, eat and sleep; for I pray and sleep, and I fast and break my fast.' He then said to me: 'O 'Abdullah, obey your father.' Thus, when he set out on the day of Siffin, I set out with him."
