#738 738 - On the authority of Ibn 'Umar, who said: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab said to 'Ali ibn Abi Talib: "O Abu Hasan, sometimes you were present when we were absent, and sometimes we were present when you were absent. There are three things I wish to ask you about; do you have any knowledge regarding them?" 'Ali said: "And what are they?" He said: "A man loves another man without having seen any good from him, and a man hates another man without having seen any evil from him?" He replied: "Yes; the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: 'Indeed, souls in the atmosphere are recruited soldiers; they meet and sniff one another. Those who recognize each other unite in harmony, and those who do not recognize each other differ in discord.'" He said: "That is one." And he said: "A man is narrating a statement and then forgets it, and then later remembers it?" 'Ali said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) say: 'There is no heart except that it has a cloud like the cloud of the moon; while the moon is shining, a cloud comes over it and it darkens, and when it clears from it, it shines again. Likewise, while a man is narrating a statement, a cloud comes over him and he forgets, and when it clears from him, he remembers.'" 'Umar said: "Two." He said: "And a man sees a vision, some of which come true and some of which are false?" He replied: "Yes. I heard the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) say: 'There is no male or female servant who sleeps and falls into a deep sleep except that their soul is ascended to the Throne. Those that do not wake up until they have reached the Throne, those are the visions that come true. And those that wake up before reaching the Throne, those are the visions that are false.'" Then 'Umar said: "Three things I was seeking, so praise be to Allah that I attained them before death."
