#3863 3863 - And from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghanam, regarding the narration of al-Harith ibn 'Amirah: that he arrived with Mu'adh from Yemen and stayed with him in his house and residence. Then they were struck by the plague, and Mu'adh, Abu 'Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah, Shurahbil ibn Hasana, and Abu Malik were all afflicted on the same day. When 'Amr ibn al-'As sensed the plague, he fled and was overcome with severe terror, saying: "O people, scatter into these mountain passes, for an occurrence [from the command of Allah] has descended upon you, and I see it as nothing but a punishment and a plague." Shurahbil ibn Hasana said to him: "You have lied! We were companions of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), and you are more astray than your family's donkey." 'Amr replied: "You have spoken the truth." Then Mu'adh ibn Jabal said to 'Amr ibn al-'As: "You have lied! It is not a plague or a punishment, but rather it is a mercy from your Lord, the call of your Prophet (pbuh), and the taking of the souls of the righteous. O Allah, grant the family of Mu'adh the fullest portion of this mercy." He said: Before evening arrived, his son Abd al-Rahman—the most beloved of creation to him and the one by whose name he held his Kunyah (nickname)—was afflicted. Mu'adh returned from the mosque and found him in distress, so he asked: "O Abd al-Rahman, how are you?" He responded: "O my father, 'The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters.'" Mu'adh said: "And we shall be, if Allah wills, among the patient." He died that night and was buried the next morning. Mu'adh ibn Jabal used to send al-Harith ibn 'Amirah to Abu 'Ubayda to ask how he was doing. Abu 'Ubayda showed him a plague sore on his palm; al-Harith ibn 'Amirah wept for Abu 'Ubayda and was frightened when he saw it. Abu 'Ubayda swore by Allah that he would not like to have red camels in its place. He said: Al-Harith returned to Mu'adh and found him unconscious, so al-Harith wept and made others weep. Then Mu'adh regained consciousness and said: "O son of the Himyarite woman, why do you weep for me? I seek refuge in Allah from you." Al-Harith said: "By Allah, I am not weeping for you!" Mu'adh asked: "Then for what do you weep?" He replied: "I weep for the loss of what I used to gain from you in the morning and evening." Mu'adh said: "Sit me up." So he sat him in his lap and Mu'adh said: "Listen to me, for I give you a testament: as for that for which you weep regarding your morning and evening study, knowledge is found between the two covers of the Mus'haf (the Quran). If its interpretation becomes difficult for you, then seek it after I am gone from three people: 'Uwaymir Abu al-Darda', or Salman al-Farisi, or the son of Umm 'Abd (Ibn Mas'ud). And I warn you against the slip of the scholar and the debate of the hypocrite." Then the throes of death intensified for Mu'adh; he struggled with a severity that no one else did. Whenever he regained consciousness from an agonizing spell, he would open his eyes and say: "Choke me with Your choking! For by Your Might, [You] know that I love You." When he passed away, al-Harith departed until he reached Abu al-Darda' in Homs and stayed with him as long as Allah willed. Then al-Harith said: "My brother Mu'adh advised me regarding you, Salman al-Farisi, and the son of Umm 'Abd, and I see myself departing for Iraq." He arrived in Kufa and began attending the circle of the son of Umm 'Abd morning and evening. While he was there one day in the gathering, the son of Umm 'Abd asked: "Who are you?" He replied: "A man from Syria." The son of Umm 'Abd said: "What a fine people are the people of Syria, if not for one thing!" Al-Harith asked: "And what is that one thing?" He said: "If only they did not testify for themselves that they are among the people of Paradise." Al-Harith recited the Istirja' (To Allah we belong and to Him we return) two or three times and said: "Mu'adh spoke the truth in what he told me." The son of Umm 'Abd asked: "What did he tell you, O son of my brother?" He said: "He warned me against the slip of the scholar. By Allah, O Ibn Mas'ud, you are but one of two men: either a man who has reached certainty and testifies that there is no god but Allah, thus you are among the people of Paradise; or a man in doubt who knows not where your final abode is." Ibn Mas'ud said: "My brother spoke the truth; indeed, it was a slip, so do not hold me to account for it." Ibn Mas'ud then took al-Harith by the hand and brought him to his camp, where he stayed as long as Allah willed. Then al-Harith said: "I must visit Abu Abd Allah Salman al-Farisi in al-Mada'in." Al-Harith traveled until he reached Salman al-Farisi in al-Mada'in. When he greeted him, Salman said: "Stay where you are until I come out to you." Al-Harith said: "By Allah, I do not think you know me, O Abu Abd Allah?" He replied: "Indeed, my soul recognized your soul before I knew you; for souls are like recruited soldiers—those who recognize each other become close, and those who do not recognize each other for any reason other than for Allah remain apart." He stayed with him as long as Allah willed, then returned to Syria. Those are the ones who recognize each other for the sake of Allah and visit each other for the sake of Allah.

Shurahbil bin Hasene i tha: "Gënjeve! Pastaj Muadh bin Xhebeli i tha Amr bin el-Asit: "Gënjeve!
