1216 - Abu Dawud narrated to us, he said: Abdul Hamid bin Bahram narrated to us, from Shahr bin Hawshab, from Shaddad bin Aws, who said: I heard the Prophet (saw) saying: "Whoever prays to be seen has committed shirk, and whoever fasts to be seen has committed shirk, and whoever gives charity to be seen has committed shirk." Then Awf bin Malik said: "Will Allah not take what was for Him from that and accept it, and leave what was for other than Him?" Shaddad said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (saw) saying: "Allah the Almighty said: I am the best of partners or sharers; whoever associates a partner with Me, then his work—the little of it and the much of it—is for My partner, and I am free from it."
Abu Bishr said: I found this hadith in a book of Abu Dawud from Abdul Hamid from Shahr bin Hawshab from Abdur Rahman bin Ghanm from Shaddad, and it is the correct version, and the hadith is shortened.
