1075 - Abu Dawud narrated to us, he said: Sallam narrated to us, from 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Rufay', who said: I heard Dhakwan Abu Salih saying: "When a guest stayed with Abu al-Darda', he would say: 'Are you staying so we may tend to you, or are you departing so we may provide fodder?' If he said: 'Departing,' he would say: 'I shall inform you of what the Messenger of Allah (saw) informed me. I said: O Messenger of Allah, the people of wealth have taken the world and the hereafter; they pray as we pray, they strive in Jihad as we strive, they remember Allah as we remember, and they give charity while we have nothing to give in charity! He said to me: Shall I not inform you of something which, if you do it, no one who comes after you will overtake you, and you will catch up with those who preceded you? You say: Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) thirty-four times after every prayer, Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah) thirty-three times, and al-Hamdu lillah (Praise be to Allah) thirty-three times. For if you do that, you will catch up with those who preceded you, and no one who comes after you will overtake you, except for one who says the same as what you said.'"
