Transmeton Ed-Dahhak bin Musa:
Suleimani pyeti: "O Abu Hazim, pse e urrejmë vdekjen?"
Abu Hazimi i tha: "Gënjeve!
Suleimani i tha: "Na i paraqit nevojat e tua."
Suleimani i tha: "Mjaft?" Abu Hazimi tha: "Unë u tregova i shkurtër por thashë shumë, nëse je prej atyre që kuptojnë. E nëse nuk je, nuk më bën dobi të gjuaj me një hark që nuk ka kordë." Suleimani i tha: "Më këshillo."
Kur hyri te Shuajbi, darka ishte e gatshme. Shuajbi i tha: 'Ulu, o i ri, dhe hëngër darkë.' Musai tha: 'Kërkoj mbrojtje tek Allahu!' Shuajbi e pyeti: 'Pse? A nuk je i uritur?'
Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim informed us, Muhammad ibn Umar ibn al-Kumayt narrated to us, Ali ibn Wahb al-Hamdani narrated to us, al-Dahhak ibn Musa narrated to us, who said: Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik passed by Madinah while he was intending to go to Makkah, and he stayed there for a few days. He asked, "Is there anyone in Madinah who met any of the companions of the Prophet (pbuh)?" They said to him, "Abu Hazim, O Commander of the Faithful." So he sent for him, and when he entered upon him, he said to him, "O Abu Hazim, what is this alienation?" Abu Hazim said, "O Commander of the Faithful, and what alienation have you seen from me?" He replied, "The prominent figures of the people of Madinah came to me, but you did not come to me." He said, "O Commander of the Faithful, I seek refuge with Allah for you to say what has not occurred; you did not know me before this day, nor had I seen you." He said: Sulayman turned to Muhammad ibn Shihab al-Zuhri and said, "The Sheikh was correct and I was wrong." Sulayman said, "O Abu Hazim, why do we hate death?" He said, "Because you have destroyed the Afterlife and built up this world, so you hate to move from prosperity to ruin." He said, "You are correct, O Abu Hazim. So how is the arrival before Allah tomorrow?" He replied, "As for the doer of good, it is like the traveler returning to his family. As for the doer of evil, it is like the runaway slave returning to his master." Sulayman wept and said, "I wish I knew what we have with Allah?" He replied, "Examine your deeds against the Book of Allah." He asked, "And where can I find it?" He replied, "{Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure, and indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire} [Surat al-Infitar: 13-14]." Sulayman asked, "Then where is the mercy of Allah, O Abu Hazim?" Abu Hazim replied, "The mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good." Sulayman said to him, "O Abu Hazim, which of Allah's servants is most honorable?" He replied, "Those characterized by chivalry and intellect." Sulayman said to him, "O Abu Hazim, which deeds are best?" Abu Hazim replied, "Fulfilling the obligations while avoiding the prohibitions." Sulayman said, "Which supplication is most heard?" Abu Hazim replied, "The supplication of the one treated with kindness for the one who showed kindness." He asked, "Which charity is best?" He replied, "To the miserable beggar, and the effort of the one who has little, without reminding the recipient of the favor or causing harm." He asked, "Which speech is most just?" He replied, "Speaking the truth in the presence of someone you fear or from whom you hope for benefit." He asked, "Which of the believers is the most shrewd?" He replied, "A man who acts in obedience to Allah and guides the people to it." He asked, "Which of the believers is the most foolish?" He replied, "A man who falls into the whims of his brother while he is an oppressor, thus selling his Afterlife for the worldly gain of someone else." Sulayman said to him, "You are correct. So what do you say about our situation?" He replied, "O Commander of the Faithful, would you excuse me?" Sulayman said to him, "No, but rather an advice you deliver to me." He said, "O Commander of the Faithful, your ancestors conquered the people with the sword and took this kingdom by force without consultation from the Muslims or their consent, until they killed a great number of them. Now they have departed from it. If only you knew what they said and what was said to them." A man among those sitting with him said, "How evil is what you have said, O Abu Hazim!" Abu Hazim replied, "You have lied. Indeed, Allah took a covenant from the scholars that they must make it clear to the people and not hide it." Sulayman said to him, "How can we rectify [matters]?" He replied, "Abandon arrogance, hold fast to chivalry, and distribute [wealth] with equality." Sulayman said to him, "How can we go about taking it?" Abu Hazim replied, "You take it from what is lawful and place it with its rightful people." Sulayman said to him, "O Abu Hazim, would you accompany us so that you may benefit from us and we may benefit from you?" He replied, "I seek refuge with Allah." Sulayman said to him, "And why is that?" He replied, "I fear that I might incline towards you even a little, and then Allah would make me taste double [punishment] in life and double [punishment] after death." Sulayman said to him, "Present your needs to us." He replied, "Save me from the Fire and enter me into Paradise." Sulayman said, "That is not within my power." Abu Hazim said, "Then I have no need from you other than that." He said, "Then supplicate for me." Abu Hazim said, "O Allah, if Sulayman is Your ally, then make it easy for him to attain the good of this world and the Hereafter. But if he is Your enemy, then take him by his forelock towards what You love and are pleased with." Sulayman said to him, "Is that all?" Abu Hazim replied, "I have been brief yet comprehensive if you are worthy of it; and if you are not worthy of it, then what benefit is there for me to shoot from a bow that has no string?" Sulayman said to him, "Advise me." He said, "I will advise you and be brief: Magnify your Lord and exalt Him such that He does not see you where He forbade you, nor find you missing where He commanded you." When he left his presence, he sent him a hundred dinars and wrote to him: "Spend these, and you have much more like them with me." He said: So he returned them to him and wrote to him: "O Commander of the Faithful, I seek refuge with Allah that your question to me be in jest, or my response to you be a display [of piety]. I did not find it acceptable for you, so how could I find it acceptable for myself?" And he wrote to him: "When Musa ibn Imran arrived at the water of Madyan, he found a group of shepherds watering [their flocks], and he found besides them two young women keeping back [their flocks]. He asked them, and they said: '{We do not water until the shepherds take away [their flocks], and our father is a very old man. So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he turned away to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."} [Surat al-Qasas: 23-24]. That was because he was hungry and fearful, not feeling safe. So he asked his Lord and did not ask the people. The shepherds did not notice, but the two young women noticed. When they returned to their father, they informed him of the story and of what he had said. Their father, who was Shu'ayb, said, 'This is a hungry man.' He said to one of them, 'Go and invite him.' When she came to him, she honored him and covered her face, saying: '{Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you with the payment for having watered for us} [Surat al-Qasas: 25]. It became difficult for Musa when she mentioned: 'the payment for having watered for us,' but he found no choice but to follow her, as he was among the mountains, hungry and lonely. When he followed her, the wind blew and began to flap her clothes against her back, describing the shape of her backside to him—and she was a woman of ample curves. Musa began to look away at times and lower his gaze at others. When his patience was exhausted, he called out to her, 'O maidservant of Allah, be behind me and show me the way by your speech.' When he entered upon Shu'ayb, he found dinner prepared. Shu'ayb said to him, 'Sit, young man, and eat dinner.' Musa said to him, 'I seek refuge with Allah.' Shu'ayb said to him, 'Why? Are you not hungry?' He replied, 'Indeed, but I fear that this might be a compensation for what I watered for them. And we are from a household that does not sell anything of our religion for the earth's fill of gold.' Shu'ayb said to him, 'No, O young man, but it is my custom and the custom of my forefathers to honor the guest and provide food.' So Musa sat and ate. Thus, if these hundred dinars are a compensation for what I narrated, then carrion, blood, and the flesh of swine in a state of necessity are more lawful than this. But if it is from my right in the public treasury, then I have peers in it. If you have treated us all equally, [I will accept], otherwise, I have no need for it."
